Mother’s Day is this coming Sunday (May 10th), and after all the ways she continues to show her love for you, we thought it would be handy to suggest a few ideas on what to do around Lower Lonsdale to treat her this weekend. Be it food or flowers, there are so many options in our ‘hood that we know she’ll love:

Brunch at Finch + Barley:

Last  year I took my mom to Finch + Barley to try out their brunch menu, and we’ve gone back several times since. With their friendly customer service and general kind interest in getting to know all of their local neighbours, I love the team at F+B! The “Bacon Avocado Benny” is fantastic, served with a “Mango Mimosa”, you’ll be off to a great start to a day of spoiling Mom! I’ve also had “The Middle Eastern” and personally recommend to everyone!

Refreshing juice at The Juicery Co.:

Pop into The Juicery Co. for a refreshing beverage to go. I recommend the “Watermelon Fresca”, a terrific, refreshing palate cleanser, or “The Pacific”. Dare Mom to try something new or ask the amazing employees what they personally recommend. If you’re a regular customer, remember that you get $1 off your purchase when you bring back your used, clean bottle. (Although I use them to shake up home-made dressings at home).

A long walk:

What better way to enjoy the view of the city and North Vancouver harbour than a long walk. Head on down St. Andrews towards the water, cross Esplanade and hang a right towards the Quay. Depending on how far Mom wants to go, you could walk along Esplanade, loop down past the Quay, along Waterfront Park and continue along the Spirit Trail past all the boats and back. It’s about 30-45 minutes, depending on how far and how fast you want to walk. It’s a great walk that’s relatively flat and allows for great conversations and catch ups: this is what Mom’s want!

Flowers at the Quay:

If the whole walk is too much, have no fear: Lonsdale Quay offers tons of food, drinks, and shops to wander through. Surprise you Mother by taking her to “Margitta Flowers”! Every Mothers’ Day they have a special build-your-own-bouquet station. Let Mom choose all of her favourites and let the experts there build her the bouquet of her dreams! It’s also very important to do this earlier on in your day with Mom so that people will compliment her flowers while you walk around. Mom will feel super special, and you’ll look like the all-star kid. It’s a major win-win.

Patio Views from Pier 7

Take Mom over to Pier 7 and sit on their patio. The views are unreal, the city skylines are epic and the cocktails are delicious. I’d recommend calling ahead for reservations to make sure your Mom gets the best seat possible. This is where the flowers are key, because you KNOW the servers will make a big fuss over your Mom. Now this is important: the Selfie! Don’t forget to get a picture of you and Mom so that she can share it with all her friends.

Whether you do all of these events or just one, the most important thing, of course, is to spend time with your Mom. We all lead crazy busy lives, and while flowers, drinks and chats are amazing, the best gift you can give this Mothers’ Day is Time.

Happy Mothers’ Day to all the amazing Moms out there!
