Today, millions of Canadians are heading to the polls to vote in our Federal Election where the emotions and stakes seem more elevated than in previous years.
You can only vote until 7pm tonight, so plan accordingly!
To make sure that as many North Vancouverites as possible exercise their right to vote, here’s some quick and dirty information on how to get your voice heard:
The Elections Canada website, elections.ca, has all of the information you need to find out when, where and how to vote. If you’re already registered, great! If you’re not, simply type your postal code into the box on the ride side of the homepage to find out where your polling station is. If you are in Lower Lonsdale proper your polling station is likely John Braithwaite Community Centre.
If you are NOT already registered, don’t fret. You can register at your polling station right before voting. Just bring the acceptable ID and boom! You’re good to go!
Each riding has candidates to represent a federal political party. The main parties are Conservative, Liberal, NDP and Green, but your voting ballot will likely have 2-3 additional less-heard-of candidates on it.
For example these are the Burnaby North – Seymour candidates:
and these are the North Vancouver candidates:
So who do you vote for? Well my friend, that’s entirely for you to decide. If you want to do some last-minute research before the 7pm buzzer, here’s a few links to check out:
“In reality, there is no such thing as not voting: you either vote by voting, or you vote by staying home and tacitly doubling the value of some Diehard’s vote.” – David Foster Wallace
