$740 million worth of public transit improvements will take place in Metro Vancouver over the next 3 years.
Prime Minister Trudeau was in Burnaby today with BC Premier Christy Clark to announce the 50% contribution of $370 million to be made by the Federal Government. The Provincial Government is fronting $246 million and Translink is covering $125 million–50%, 33% and 17% respectively–for a total of $740 million.
The funding is allocated towards 28 new Mark III cars (seven four-car trains) for the Expo, Millennium, and Evergreen lines to increase capacity by 12%; 22 new cars (eleven two-car trains) for the Canada Line to increase capacity by 55% and reduce crowding; five new West Coast Express cars; and a third SeaBus ferry vessel to increase service frequency from every 15 minutes to 10 minutes during peak hours.
