What draws many people to North Vancouver is our connection with, and proximity to, the picturesque beauty and wilderness of the North Shore Mountains. Whether you enjoy our amazing backyard to experience an adrenaline rush, to exercise, or to feel more in tune with nature, there are always risks.

Yesterday a teenager was badly hurt after jumping off of a cliff in Lynn Canyon, and today a 55 year old man died on the Grouse Grind after suffering a heart attack.

Both of these stories are harsh reminders that when accidents happen in the mountains, the chance of quick response or rescue drops significantly. We have world-class first responders, but the challenges posed by the steep terrain, thick woods and hidden areas are very real.

Please be careful in our backyard. Know your limits and respect the wild.
