We are kind of obsessing over the beautiful, hand-crafted & eco-friendly timber work that is being done literally down the street from most of us here in Lower Lonsdale at Vancouver Urban Timberworks (364 E. Esplanade).

Two North Shore locals, Eric Savics & Danny Hagge, wanted to make use of all the quality timber that was either being used for firewood or being tossed in a landfill (British Columbia disposes 1/4 of the timber that it produces annually). They developed a unique way of harvesting their product by offering free pickup of trees that needed to come down in urban areas.

By doing this, they are recycling valuable timber while still offering a premium product with strength and character. You can work with them on anything custom and even pick out your own slab. Their furniture is one-of-a-kind and unlike mass produced product, it will outlive you.  Sounds like a great investment to me.
