Vancity Credit Union released a detailed report on small business in the Lower Mainland. The report, titled Open for Business: the top cities to start up a small business in Metro Vancouver, analyzes 7 factors that contribute to the success of small businesses:

  1. Access to population
  2. Transportation network
  3. Cost of doing business
  4. Supply chain
  5. Entrepreneurialism
  6. Cost of housing
  7. Family support

Here’s the final ranking across the 17 Metro Vancouver municipalities:

North Vancouver City did the best of the three North Shore cities, but still scored low in the cost of housing and family support categories. North Vancouver District was third-last and West Vancouver, dead last.
