Vancouver is Awesome published an article today on a pilot project called a “Binners Hook”, by the Binners’ Project.

The Binners’ Project are a group of waste-pickers aided by support staff dedicated to improving their economic opportunities, and reducing the stigma they face as informal recyclable collectors.

Designed to hold a bag of cans and/or bottles, this hook gifts your recycling to someone whose source of income is returning cans and bottles to the depot.

“The Binners Hook allows Vancouverites to leave refundable bottles and cans outside their property for easy pick-up by local binners. This pilot program aims to raise awareness around binning by acknowledging the contribution that binners make to our community and furthering their economic opportunities.

Love it.
